Dr. Juliette Kristensen is a design historian working between visual and material culture. Based in the Department of Visual Cultures at Goldsmiths, University of London, her research interests lie in the technologies and techniques of writing, specifically the typewriter. She writes and speaks on the history of technology more broadly, on topics including eighteenth century automata, the typewriter, ouija boards, the Walkman and the iPod, as well as spiritualism, nineteenth-century magic, the history of punctuation and the architecture of Apple Stores.
She is an editor of journal of visual culture and publisher and managing editor of Paperweight: A Newspaper of Visual and Material Culture. She produces and hosts the radio programme Paperweight: A Radio Newspaper on Resonance 104.4FM, and is a founder of Art Vapours, a feminist art publishing and broadcasting collective.
